Alexandra Young
I wanted to be Project Manager as I wanted to develop my leadership skills further. I enjoy being organised and so through leading the projects on this module, I have learnt to have confidence in myself with what I do. My dedication to this module means I like to challenge everyone to do the best they can as I know as a group we all want to succeed, so this pushes me to do my best as well. Seeing these projects develop from start to finish whilst knowing that I have helped lead it to get there has been rewarding. Being in a leadership role is something I would like continue to do after University, and this module has taught me that.

I have previous experience in leadership through volunteering and felt that this role as Deputy Project Manager would enable me to optimise my abilities to benefit a team, which so far, working along side Alexandra has been extremely worthwhile . This module has definitely expanded understandings, reaching into my other modules I study in my Criminology degree, and has encouraged levels of confidence to apply for a masters course here at Essex. I can whole heartedly say this module has been one of the most beneficial modules I have studied as I believe most of what I've learned is completely adaptable to the workplace, and has helped me grow as a person.

My passion for choosing criminology came from delving into the different aspects of what criminology holds through secondary school and also A-Levels. Studying criminology would hopefully allow me to then go into a career where I will be able to benefit my community and the individuals in it.

Sofia Gonzalez Velasco
I am a Criminology and Sociology student. I have chosen this as the child of immigrant parents living in south London whose parents have lived in the UK longer than in their birth country, I am aware of their inability to vote in the UK and therefore lack of participation in a system they have been contributing through taxes all of their working lives.
I’m interested in class systems and structures and ideas of social mobility as a way of monitoring fairness and equality of opportunities in society.

My degree is international economics. The reason for choosing the social science course is that it can give me a deeper understanding of global economic interaction and its impact on society. By exploring the environment, diversity, inequality, and injustice, I can critically analyse how economic decisions affect social structures and individual lives on a global scale.
